Data Usage guidelines when you’re working from home

Modified on Mon, 06 Apr 2020 at 03:48 PM

Please remember that when you’re working from home, that the usage on your home network AND in your neighborhood is going to impact your voice quality.

Voice over IP is a streaming technology, a cousin of Netflix, Hulu, etc.  You know how when you’re watching Netflix and you get that “blotting” in the picture – or when it’s bad, you get an error?  Well, that impacts voice much more severely, and you get garbled audio and loss of audio – and sometimes even the call drops.

To the first comment – the usage around you is going to impact your voice quality.  So if someone in your house is streaming video, you may get some occasional blurbs in your speech.  If you’ve got multiple people streaming video – your voice quality is going to suffer.
